A note on the Fillmore in Silver Spring

There is no secret that I have been curiously watching the development of a live music venue here in Silver Spring. It is also no secret that I have been less than thrilled with County Executive Ike Leggett's handling of the situation.

Well, there was some interesting insight on the stickiness of the situation in the WaPo yesterday. thought I would share it with the masses (ya know, cause I draw more than the Post...)

Anyway, here is a link to the article:

let me know what you think.

That article failed to point out that the Lees could have developed that property anytime they wanted over the last 18 years - they own it after all. They don't need -- and Live Nation doesn't need -- $8 million of my tax money to line their pockets. What a crock. Doesn't anyone remember that the owner of the 9:30 Club offered to build a club there on his own dime?

The whole deal stinks and it seems that the developer is in all the politicians pockets.

agreed. i was sort of surprised to see how greedy and overly cautious they were being with the whole thing.

seth from 9:30 was late to the game, but i think his play was more of a reaction to the Birchmere guys having the rug yanked out from under them. trying to make a statement that it is better for it to be local, as opposed to a mega-corp not living up to its promises, and taking lot'o tax dollars in the process.

stinks worse than blue cheese left in the trunk for a week.
